After moving to Las Vegas in 2006 with his family to be the executive director of a cancer foundation, he became the CEO of a leadership development company. Spencer has been married to his amazing wife, Jana, for more than 29 years. Together they have five beautiful children and three grandchildren.

Lee R. Lee is a Past President of the Central Ohio PMI and was one of the Founders of the Project Management Institute’s Project Management Professional (PMP) credential. At 37 years old Lee was named VP of Staff and Organizational Development for one of the world’s largest contract research organizations where he was responsible for creating and implementing a Leadership Development program focused on improved performance for project managers and supporting functional/line managers.

Ivan Rincon
Ivan Rincon is a project management professional with 30 years of experience. Ivan is a recognized speaker, having presented in nine PMI Global Congresses since 2006, as well as several PMI Leadership Institute Meetings in Europe and North America. He has been invited by several PMI Chapters world-wide including Dominican Republic, Colombia, Norway and Saudi Arabia for professional development days and local congresses. Sam Akins
Sam has 20+ years of experience in the medical device industry as an engineer, program manager, and PMO leader. Sam is currently the PMO Director at BD’s Vascular Access Devices Business, a large medical device company in the Salt Lake valley that develops and manufactures vascular catheters, ultrasound, and catheter placement technologies. His other career experiences include R&D management at BD, program leadership at GE Healthcare, and product development engineering at several medical device startups.
Sam is an inventor with patents covering numerous medical device segments including hypothermia treatment systems, electro-magnetic tracking technologies, and vascular access devices. Sam holds BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University and Tufts University. In 2013 Sam earned his PMP certification.
Sam is originally from New Hampshire and moved to Utah in 2010. Sam and his wife, Erin, have 5 children ranging in ages from 2 to 17 years. Outside of the office, Sam enjoys running, skiing, and volunteering as a ride leader for his daughters’ mountain biking teams.
Abby Bird and Kathy Marcum
Abby has worked in project management for the last 17 years. She is currently the Senior Director of the Corporate PMO for the bioMérieux Salt Lake City site, managing a team of 30+ Program Managers, Project Coordinators, Change Managers and Technical Writers. The CPMO supports bioMérieux, a leading medical device manufacturer, in operational and process-focused projects. Abby is a PMP as well as holds an Advanced PM certificate from Stanford. She considers Change Management to be an essential tool for managing projects and key to project success.
Kathy Marcum is a change management lead for bioMerieux and works within the Corporate Project Management Office.
She believes that change management is a fundamental part of project management and loves her job as a change manager. Her mission is to help employees through change as painlessly as possible.

Dr. Ken Knapton
Dr. Knapton is a veteran technology leader with broad experience in IT operations, software development, enterprise architecture, software design, program management, project management, analytics, infrastructure, quality assurance and user interaction. He applies his vast experience in his role as CIO to improve under-performing IT organizations and specializes in teaching IT organizations how to be agile, and how to establish a service-oriented IT culture. Dr. Knapton holds 3 patents for his early work on enterprise security and anti-virus technology and has published a book on family safety and technology. Dr. Knapton earned his doctorate in IT with his dissertation on big data governance. Troy Miller
Troy has worked in the cost and schedule analytics industry for over 20 years. Currently, he is a Technical Manager for Tecolote Research Inc. He has performed analytics on programs that have ranged from a few million to many billions of dollars. Over the years, he has worked on Air Force ICBM programs, NASA programs, and Navy SSP programs. His analysis has supported software development efforts, propulsion subsystem upgrades, Inertial Measurement Units, facility construction and many others. His analysis typically estimates the probability of on-time delivery and budget sufficiency. His analysis includes Schedule Risk Assessments, Cost Risk Assessments and Joint Cost/Schedule Analysis.
Reed Shell, PMP
Reed is a 30-year Information Technology professional who has worked for Fortune 50 companies, non-profits, and small businesses. Reed speaks fluent agile and is a Certified Scrum Professional. He enjoys teaching and instructs part time for the University of Utah. James Burnham

Carl Canlas, Ph.D.
Dr. Carl Canlas current research focuses on traditional and agile project management, artificial intelligence self-driving technologies and cybersecurity audits. His doctoral research focused on the effectiveness of project management credentials and integrated project management implementation on IT project management success, leveraging empirical data-driven approaches, and considering exam structures, auditing information systems, and work experiences to improve the current certification.
Currently, he consults with Fortune 1000 companies to develop tools and processes for leadership development, effective project management and agile auditing. He has also taught technical courses, developed curriculum and served as subject matter expert for various colleges and universities.

Mike Berry
Mike has worked in many areas of the software industry since 1987. He has extensive experience managing and performing all aspects of modern software engineering.
With a degree in Information Systems and Technologies from Weber State University and over thirty-five years of industry experience, he has worked and consulted locally for both small and large companies in and near Salt Lake City, UT. He has managed large project teams of software developers, software testers, data-base administrators and produced separate enterprise software applications that have been used in over 2500 banking branch sites, 600 medical clinics, and multiple distribution offices in 12 countries.
He has studied with the best industry thinkers of our time, and his consulting work has taken him all over the US, to Europe, the South Pacific, and inside the Arctic Circle. He has studied Agile with Ken Schwaber, the co-creator of Scrum, and Alistair Cockburn, the creator of Crystal. He has worked for the largest bank and the largest credit union in Utah. He was the VP of Software Development for Chartlogic, a Utah-based medical software company, where he oversaw the technology growth and management of medical software installations from 200 to 600 clinics nationwide. He has consulted in the software side of several lean manufacturing companies, and was an adjunct professor at the University of Utah, Utah Valley University, and Neumont College of Computer Science.

Dave Durocher
Executive Director, The Other Side Academy
Dave Durocher was arrested for the first time at the age of thirteen. By the time he was 38, he had been to prison four times for a total of fifteen years. Dave was arrested yet again, and this time he was facing a twenty-two year prison sentence. In what the Judge called “the chance of a lifetime” he afforded Dave the opportunity to go to Delancey Street instead of prison but reminded Dave in no uncertain terms that if he didn’t complete his commitment at Delancey Street he would be spending the rest of his life in prison.
Not only did Dave complete his initial two year commitment, he stayed for a total of eight years and became the Executive Director of Delancey’s Los Angeles facility for five of those years, overseeing two hundred and fifty residents and a multitude ofvocational training school businesses that funded the operation and provided the training ground for residents to learn how to live a constructive and meaningful life. Dave oversaw a 300% increase in revenue during his tenure over the facility.
Dave is tenacious, interpersonally skilled, a good manager and an inspiring and powerful public speaker. He had helped countless others regain their dignity and their lives before he moved on to enjoy his own success as the person he had become.
Dave helped launch The Other Side Academy in 2015 and is currently the Executive Director in Salt Lake City. The Other Side Academy is a two-year Life Skills Academy similar to Delancey Street, where men and women can come to learn about honesty, accountability, integrity, hard work and self-respect. Under Dave’s management, The Other Side Academy has grown to over $11 million in revenues and donations for 2018 and has overseen the growth of the student population to over 90 students.

Jessica Tidwell
Jessica Tidwell is an IT project manager and product owner over multiplesystems for a staffing company in Texas called BGSF. She works remotely from Utah. She received her PMP in 2014 and her MBA in 2019. She was on the board of directors of PMI – Northern Utah chapter serving as the Membership Vice President from 2013-2018. She worked as a project management consultant before joining her current company full time in 2022.
